Weeds Season 5 Finale: “All About My Mom”

WEEDS (season 4)WEEDS

SEASON 5 FINALE:

“ALL ABOUT MY

MOM”

Well here we are gang, another season of Weeds has come and gone.  Season 5 comes to a chilling conclusion as Nancy walks into a room of her house to find a masseuse waiting for her, a gift she has a hard time refusing. Nancy tries to relax as the masseuse works on her. The masseuse tells Nancy she is strong like the boss, until, of course she finds out that the boss is Pilar.

We find Celia, looking more-and-more Nancy-like, making a screwdriver out of concentrated OJ in her hide-out in a storage facility, when Doug drops by. They try to agree to the terms of selling her stash. Doug only has $37 to his name, so she suggests selling on credit. Then he notices her pot is not his, and she realizes he knows she stole his pot. He threatens to sic the black cop on her and now she knows she was set up. She bangs him on the head with her pitcher of screwdriver, and finishes the rest with one last swig.

Back at home Silas gets a call from Adelita from her bedroom upstairs asking him to come up to her. When he gets there he finds out she is numb on one side of her body due to a bad reaction to Heroin. Nancy talks to her surly son Shane, who doesn’t say much of anything any more.

“Holy s—, you’re a junkie,” he says.

“I’m a recreational user,” she insists.

He says he’s going to call her dad.

Elsewhere, Andy leads Audra (or as we have come to know her, Dr. Alanis Morissette) into the garage, covering her eyes. He claims to have a sexy surprise for her. It’s a new minivan. He sold the General Lee and a few arcade games. He also unregistered their phone number so Gale the pro-life stalker can’t find them and forwarded it to the van. He has her climb into the front seat to notice the ring hanging from the rear view mirror. She’s distracted by the TV screens and GPS and pretty much everything but the ring.

“God dammit, look at the rear view mirror,” Andy barks at he, and turns her head toward the ring.

She tells him he should take it down because if the light hits it, it might blind someone and cause an accident. He asks her to marry him, but before she can answer, Silas calls on the van phone, saying he needs her for an emergency. Nancy comes downstairs to find her husband having coffee with Pilar, who says she and Esteban have always been a great team. Esteban says that they’ve come to an understanding.

“So I’m guessing death, and/or blackmail and/or imprisonment is the glue that holds you together,” Nancy tells her.

Pilar tells Nancy Esteban will win the election, even married to her , but it’d still be best if she stayed in the background.  Pilar invites her to a fundraiser at her house that night. She should come for 30 minutes, then get a headache and leave, she directs Nancy, then leaves. Nancy tells Esteban about looking for him yesterday and finding him on TV. He says Pilar is blackmailing him and his options were to cooperate or go to prison for life.

Nancy calls a now free Guillermo. She tells him she wants it done today. He says it’s no problem.

Meanwhile, Doug wakes up tied up in Celia’s storage locker. She explains that she’s going to go back to being a drug dealer. But Doug tells her she’s not cut out to be a drug dealer. She doesn’t have a team. Nancy had a team. Celia wants a team.

Back in the house, Nancy runs into Andy and Audra (wearing the ring) in the hallway outside Adelita’s door. Silas comes out and thinks his mom knows. And then he has to tell her that Adelita is a junkie. Audra and Silas go check on Adelita, while Andy and Nancy go downstairs where Nancy finds out Audra hasn’t said ‘yes’ yet.

Esteban wanders in and wonders why Andy is there. Eventually Nancy tells him Audra is with Adelita, and immediately Esteban comes to the conclusion that his daughter is pregnant. When Nancy has to tell him the truth, he thinks that that is impossible.

Finally he says “I can’t” and walks away.

Well, Nancy says, then I will.

Meanwhile, Celia greets her new team: Doug (co-team leader and finance), Dean (legal), Sanjay (sales), Ignacio (supply and, as “Perro Isano,” muscle) and Isabelle (brains).

Audra and Andy walk home. She’s still wearing the ring, but hasn’t answered. They walk inside, where they find crazy protester Gale wielding a crossbow. Andy runs away immediately, leaving Audra there alone with her dangerous stalker.

At the fundraiser, Silas says his mom arranged for Adelita to go to a rehab in Arizona. And that it was weird seeing Esteban cry. Cesar tells Nancy to get used to Pilar and her ways. She says she’s prepared other ways. Nancy tells Esteban she’s leaving. He says he’s sorry about everything. He gives her his jacket and she walks out. Pilar walks out with her. Pilar tells Nancy she knows she tried to have Guillermo to knock her off, and that next time she tries to have her killed, she might want to choose someone who doesn’t work for her and isn’t still mad at Nancy for ratting him out. Pilar suggests they add two more to the list: Shane and Silas. Nancy tells Pilar if she comes near her kids, she’ll kill her. Pilar coolly lists the ways they might go, in a car accident, a plane crash….

“Or a croquet mallet,” someone says as she is whacked solidly in the head and knocked into the nearby swimming pool. It’s Shane, who looks pretty pleased with himself. All Nancy can do is look at him with a combination of relief and horror.

And as season 5 comes to a chilling cliff-hanging close, we are left with a motionless and presumably lifeless, Pilar floating face down in the pool.

So, I hope all you Weeds fans have enjoyed this season as much as I have.

Your comments, as always are encouraged and appreciated.

I again thank everyone for reading me and I look forward to bringing you more in the future.

Weeds Season 5 Episode 12: “Glue”

WEEDS: SEASON 5 EPISODE 12

“GLUE”

WEEDS (season 4)

Here we are, with one episode left to season 5, and quite an exciting season it has been.

Nancy is freaking out this week about Esteban. After a night of drinking, hops into a car with Andy and Cesar to go find Esteban. During the car ride Andy tells Nancy he is going to ask Audra to marry him and wants to give her the ring that Judah gave to Nancy.   Nancy laughs him off, because she doesn’t think he turly loves Audra.

When they get to the police station, they are constantly given the run around going from floor to floor and no sign of Esteban. When they finally get some answers they find out that Estaban was already released.

Adelita decides to have a little get together at her father’s house and she invites Silas to stay and join their party. When Adelita’s friends come over, they are two guys and invite Silas to join them in smoking some heroin, which he turns down. Later, when Adelita is stoned, her two gentleman callers try to take advantage of her in her condition, until Silas decides to intervene. When that doesn’t work out, Shane decides to pull a knife on them, using the teachings of his “summer school” teacher, Ignacio.  The two boys leave, with Silas impressed with his little brother.

Celia, meanwhile, seems to have what appears to be a detective trailing her, so of course she runs in fear.  The, so-called detective, is in fact, Dean in blackface, which is actually just “You’re Pretty!” cosmetics.  All just in fun, mind you, to get back at Celia for stealing the pot and shutting Dean out of her plans.

Back at the house Nancy and Andy return just in time to see Esteban on the television in a press conference announcing he is back on the ticket and running for governor. And who should be beside him but Pilar. Looks like she dragged him back into her clutches.  Andy then announces his intentions to marry Audra to the rest of the family, with Nancy announcing that he will be using her ring, and with her blessings.

Can’t wait to see how all this comes to a boil for next week’s season finale!

As always, thanks for reading me and your comments are always welcome and encouraged…

So…

Until Next Time!

Happy Viewing

Weeds Season 5 Episode 11: “Ducks and Tigers”

WEEDS: SEASON 5 EPISODE 11

“DUCKS AND TIGERS”

WEEDS (season 4)

Hey gang, another episode of the fabulous Weeds has come and gone, with only two episodes left after this, things are getting pretty exciting, and one only knows how this will all end up.

Now in this, the 11th episode, “Ducks and Tigers” everything seems to be going smoothly as Shane, Silas, Nancy and Esteban are all playing lawn darts, when from out of the blue a smoking hot Latina teenager saunters into the backyard. Nancy seems worried and the boys tongues are on the ground until Esteban introduces the young woman to the family. It is his daughter Adelita. Adelita didn’t know her dad and Nancy were married, nor did she know she had a new half-brother.

Elsewhere, Celia is in a restaurant having breakfast with Rayleen, who’s extremely turned on by Celia’s success in the make-up company. Celia laughs it off until Rayleen pulls Celia’s hand under the table and shoves it up her dress in the middle of the restaurant, causing a flustered waitress to return later to freshen their coffees.

Nancy finds Lupita giving the baby formula, against her wishes. Esteban told her to give the baby fromula. Nancy sets Esteban straight. Nancy gets a call from Guillermo, but ignores it.

Meanwhile, Andy is waiting outside the clinic for Dr. Kitson. Gale the abortion protester stares him down. When she comes out, she isn’t convinced that Andy is a changed man, since he picked her up in the General Lee, but he has a surprise for her. He opens the door for her. He had the doors unwelded!!

In another part of town, and over bong hits, Doug and Dean scheme on how to get back at Celia. Dean wants to put  ”spider goats” under her door. They’re part spider and part goat and their webs are like kevlar, he explains. Doug is particularly distressed to notice the size of his feet, which leads to a repressed childhood memory about getting molested at the circus. He suggests they get stoned in shifts and if one has a good idea, they’ll write each other notes, “like ‘Memento.’”

Nancy meets with Guillermo in the conjugal prison trailer. He explains that the woman Nancy wants dead is big time. And he wants something in return, his case transferred to Mexican courts.  She asks how she knows he won’t come after her. He says they’re like one of those YouTube videos, where a tiger and a duck become friends and get all confused; you think it’s going to be OK, but you never really know.

At the the doctor’s place, Andy gives Audra a foot massage as she reviews anatomy. She identifies the bones in her leg as he works his way up, kissing her. Then she’s naming lady parts and he’s showing off his special pleasure skills. And then a tomato splats against the window. It’s Gale the protester. He has a thing for her. She knew it was a bad idea having Andy pick her up.
She says she’s always moving and they’re always finding her. As tomatoes continue to lamely splat against the pane, Andy suggests she move in with him. She can have her own room.

Back at home, Nancy asks Cesar if he can get a judge to move Guillermo’s case. He’s not happy she visited him, but she tells him they have to work together now. Shane comes down for beer. Nancy tells him he is not allowed to have anymore beer. The fact that she let him have any in the first place was for a special occasion: he got shot.  He goes in the fridge and sneaks one anyway!
Then, Nancy forbids Cesar from hurting the judge, threatening to tell Esteban he tried to kill her. As a show of good will, she cuts up the piece of steak he’s having trouble managing with his injured arm (which she shot).

Celia takes Isabelle out for some mother-daughter salon pampering, sharing her success. Isabelle is suspicious of her nice mother. Celia confesses that she wants to apologize for how she reacted when Isabelle told her she was gay. And she has questions. Like what do you do?  Isabelle realizes what’s happening and starts telling her mother no. “You cannot take this away from me,” she says, “it’s all that I have.”

At the Ren Mar house, Andy has lit candles and made dinner for Audra. She comes over, impressed.  They soon get to lovin’. Afterwards , in bed, she has questions about what he did that worked so well. And could he please do it again? They consult an anatomy book so he can point out what he was working on. Then he decides to go with a demonstration.

Silas saunters by Adelita at the house, suggesting they go for a night swim. She turns him down, telling him she’s reading. He tries to talk books. It doesn’t go well. Nancy sees his futile attempts and, once he leaves, says outright to Adelita that her son can be very charming. But the self-possessed high school princess tells Nancy that her lover is 32, so she has no interest in Silas.
Nancy extends an olive branch, suggesting they go to lunch together sometime. Adelita says that’s nice of her, but she’s not invested in her father’s love life.

Nancy finds Lupita, and announces that the baby won’t nurse. She sends her off to feed him the formula.  Esteban finishes chatting with some fellows on the lawn and tells Nancy he still has a chance at governor. He even has some clean money lined up. He asks where his daughter is. He heard Silas tried to hit on her. He says he’s not in her league, he’s a “simple boy.” Offended, Nancy says Adelita has a stick up her a–. He hopes so, he sent her to France to get it there. She wishes him a pleasant night on the sofa.

Meanwhile Celia comes home from shopping with Rayleen, making small talk in the hallway. Then they make out for a little while. Celia’s ready for more, but Rayleen says they’ll get to that. She picks up her bags and leaves.

Nancy finds Shane in the bathroom and offers to help him change his bandage. Silas comes in reading a book, but leaves. Shane gets impatient when his mom takes too long to tend to him. He takes the bandages and leaves.

A disgusted Isabelle finds her dad and Doug passed out in Dean’s office. They’ve drawn all over each other’s faces. She figures that they’re planning on getting back at Celia. She is all for it.  ”Let’s do this right,” she says.

At night, Nancy sits on the bed as Esteban works on the couch. She tells him that she wants Stevie to go far away when he’s old enough. Esteban says there’ll be nothing to run from, he won’t be Pilar’s clown.  Nancy is worried that she ruined her kids, and Esteban reassures her that they can fix them.
Then he tells her he’s been reading about formula and he’s changed his mind about it. He asks her to come to the opening of his Tijuana campaign office the next day.  At the office the next day, Cesar tells Nancy he found a judge who would move Guillermo’s case. Incriminating photos involving livestock are involved.  Then the police pull up (under the direction of the incomparable Marco Rodríguez). Esteban is placed under arrest for suspicion of conspiracy, racketeering and tax evasion and is hauled away and Nancy can only look on in horror.

Has Esteban been set up?  If he was, is Pilar behind it somehow?

Or has Esteban’s past finally caught up with him??

Stay tuned!

Weeds: Season 5: Episode 10: “Perro Insano”

WEEDS: SEASON 5: EPISODE 10

“PERRO INSANO” (INSANE DOG)

Here we are kids, nearing the end of another exciting season of Weeds, with episode 10: “Perro Insano”, which translated means Insane Dog.

Last week we saw Shane take a bullet to the shoulder that meant for Nancy. Turns out Pilar put a hit out on her. And it turns out Cesar was in on it as well, as Nancy was able to deduce. Cesar shot and killed the hit man because he realized how happy Esteban is with her. She forgives him, but shoots him in the arm as payment for letting Shane get hit. They call on Audra to patch him up at the house, then gives him Percocet for the pain. He confesses later to Silas that he hasn’t touched an of the painkillers, because the physical pain takes his mind off of his emotional ones.

Esteban and Nancy try to convince Silas he should leave the country for his own safety, but he refuses, and instead insists on living in Esteban’s home and demands extra security. A new candidate has replaced Esteban in the race for Governor, so he decides he’s going to run as an independent, which will probably put the family in even more danger.

Elsewhere, Doug tries to cash in on Celia’s success with “You’re Pretty Cosmetics”, and can’t understand why Celia can do so well and he can’t even move so much as a lipstick. That is, until one of Celia’s regular customers approaches him and tells him she’s been buying weed from Celia under the disguise of the make-up so her husband won’t find out. Doug (finally) realizes that Celia is using the weed from their dispensary and pays a call on Dean to make nicey-nicey and get back at her.

Meanwhile, Celia is out of product and approaches Ignacio to ask him to be her supplier. For a 20 percent cut, of course.inter

Now that Esteban is running as an independent candidate for governor, he and Nancy have their wedding at the house, with just close friends (Ignacio and Cesar) and family, Andy signs over Stevie Ray’s birth certificate over to Nancy, and Nancy makes another visit to Guillermo. This time she wants Pilar dead, but was kind enough to bring him a piece of wedding cake.

Hold on to your hats, kids, cause these last episodes are going to be pretty intense.

And, as always, your comments are always welcome and appreciated.

SO…

Until Next Time…

Happy Viewing

Weeds 5.9 “Suck ‘N’ Spit”

Mary-Louise Parker as Nancy Botwin

Mary-Louise Parker as Nancy Botwin

WEEDS

SEASON 5 EPISODE 9

“SUCK ‘N’ SPIT”

As the saga unfolds this week, we see Esteban throwing a “mantrum” (or if you prefer, man tantrum) at home right in front of his goon Cesar. It seems Nancy’s words may have struck a chord with him and he realizes he truly loves her and this makes him furious.

Meanwhile, Silas and Doug get an earful as Dean breaks the news to them (unconvincingly I might add) of how he was ripped off in a shady neighborhood of all the pot from the store on his way home from the police station. Of course we know he’s lying, and so did Doug and Silas. Dean receives a black eye from Doug.

Back at home, a young cynical 14 year-old  Shane is told by his two goth girlfriends that he might have an  STD, because they were diagnosed with chlamydia.  Thankfully Uncle Andy walked in on them before anything could happen. Nancy, who appeared completely stoned, but wasn’t, takes him to the clinic with Andy by her side.  This, of course leads to many stories from Uncle Andy about the times he got VD. Nancy explains to him that at this particular moment Shane needs a parent, and not a friend. Shane winds up with a form of a yeast infection, prescribed a medication and sent on his way.

Elsewhere, Dean and Celia are working a You’re Pretty! seminar thanks to the stash of weed they somehow bamboozled Doug and Silas out of.  After the ladies are treated to some free booze, out come the credit cards to purchase the ganja-filled cosmetic cases. Seems like things are looking up for Celia. But if I know my Celia, it won’t be for long. But. let her enjoy it while it lasts. She later announces to Silas and Doug that she’s moving out and into a new condo thanks to You’re Pretty! cosmetics. Doug, in turn, not knowing (of course) that her success is due to the fact that her cosmetics are laced with his and Silas’ weed, decides to crash a You’re Pretty! seminar to see if he can become as successful as she is.  Because, of course, if Celia can do it, anyone should be able to! This ought to be hysterical.

In another part of town, Andy and Nancy chit-chat over tropical drinks at a fake Hawaiian restaurant. Then the burden of her milk-filled breasts becomes too great and she tries to pump in the bathroom to relieve the pressure. It doesn’t work. She calls Andy on his cell and begs him to join her in the ladies’ room. The next scene had to be seen to be believed, but it involved Andy and as he put it, “Lips to Nips”.  Yes, yes, yes. He had to suckle Nancy to get her milk flowing. Unfortunately, Andy accidentally (or not, I’m not totally sure) swallows the milk when he was supposed to spit it out. But he didn’t want to be a hypocrite!!

Esteban, coming off of a date he was set up on by Pilar earlier in the episode to get over Nancy and to start a new life and be happy with, barges into the house in his usual fashion and finds Nancy and Andy sharing the same bed. Assuring him that nothing sexual was going on, Esteban proposes to Nancy again. “We will get married. Now.” How romantic! As he and Nancy argue the point in the front yard, with Cesar looking on, Andy persuades Shane to go outside and eavesdrop on their conversation. Just at that moment, someone walking by shoots at Nancy and Esteban. The shots miss, and Cesar winds up killing the would-be assasin. But, instead of hitting either Nancy or Esteban, a bullet hits Shane in the shoulder. Shane groans out a barely audible “Mom” as a horrified Nancy turns and can do nothing but watch her son slump to the ground.

Stay Tuned!!

As always your comments are appreciated and more than welcome!

Weeds 5.8 “A Distinctive Horn”

Elizabeth Perkins as Celia Hodes

Elizabeth Perkins as Celia Hodes

WEEDS

SEASON 5 EPISODE 8

“A DISTINCTIVE HORN”

In this episode Pilar, who is Esteban’s political advisor, among other things I’m sure, and the mexicunt from the previous episode, visits Nancy in the hospital as she wakes from a snooze. Pilar tells Nancy, as she coos over the baby in his crib that she never had children because they are extraordinarily inconvenient, and that her having this child was a mistake that could end the career of a very promising politician, and that she would correct the mistake.

When Esteban comes to take Nancy home, he refuses to put his name on the birth certificate, choosing to leave it blank for the time being (”until after the election”). Nancy tells him to stay out of it and that her family was coming to take her back to her home. When Nancy has to put a name down as the baby’s daddy on the birth certificate, I don’t know about you, but of course I knew right away it would be Andy’s.

Meanwhile,  Celia confronts Raylene of You’re Pretty! Cosmetics and wants to return the goods.  Raylene won’t hear of it, and instead advises Celia that she’s selling a lifestyle and a dream — not merely lipstick and blush — and besides, she signed a contract for a year and she’ll sue Celia’s ass if she tries to back out.

Nancy returns home to the house in Ren Mar with the baby and leaves him with Silas and Shane who don’t quite know what to make of their new baby brother to view their new brother in the baby carrier while she goes off to take a shower.  Upon arriving at her bedroom she finds Andy sprawled on a big round bed smoking a waterpipe and reading. And, he’s a little confused because the hospital called him a few minutes ago to tell him about their new father classes.

At first Andy rejects the notion outright of having his name on the birth certificate since Esteban won’t sign until the time is right, whenever that will be. Andy tells her “I’m through playing baby daddy to your kids.”

But, after finding out he’s now the dad (albeit only by name) on the newest Botwin’s birth certificate, he spruces himself up including shaving off that god awful beard, and head’s down to the Women’s Clinic to see if he can get a date and maybe more with Dr. Audra Kitson (played beautifuly, I have to admit, by Alanis Morissette). He takes her in the General Lee car to one of those fake Mexican restaurants, and in the short time it takes her to have a cocktail and realize she’s too good for him, she cuts to the chase and informs him she’d rather be home in her pj’s watching DVD’s.

Andy: What’s wrong?
Dr. Kitson: Nutshell? I’m past you.
Andy: Past me in what?
Dr. Kitson: In life.

After being shot down, Andy returns home, ready to accept the responsibilities of being a dad. But, of course, with Andy, he demands to be fully involved or not at all. His first demand: a bris. The baby’s foreskin must be removed by a moyel, at a bris, and whitefish served with bagels. Otherwise, no dice. Of course Nancy gives in to this.  Like it or not (but I truly believes she likes it) She realizes Andy is her angel.

This week is rather painful for Doug as usual. Silas and Doug come to Dean to get a court order so they can get their pot back from the courts. Dean will only do so if he can do something very painful involving Doug’s manhood and Dean’s desk drawer. Doug, being Doug, agrees. His yells can be heard throughout the building. I nearly fell on my ass laughing so hard.

After the pot has been rescued and is in Dean’s office, and he’s sipping away on a waterpipe enjoying his payment for helping Silas and Doug, Celia comes in to ask him to look over the You’re Pretty! contract to find any loopholes to get her out of it.  As ironclad as the contract seems to be, a thought crosses her mind as she sees all the pot at Dean’s disposal. What if she packs the cosmetics full of marijuana and sells those instead?  And they could make it look like Dean was robbed of all the pot?  Good to see Celia and Dean working together again!

The bris takes place in Nancy’s living room with friends and relatives looking on. Snip snip, and then the chowing down ensues. Andy’s even holding baby Steven (they named the baby Steven), in a nice white shirt and tie, looking very dad-like. Almost as if he were meant to be doing it all along, and then Esteban has to make an appearance. And not a happy one, I might add when he finds out what has just happened.

“My son is not Jewish. This is unacceptable!” he tells Nancy, who tells him he had his chance, but since he didn’t have the courage to claim the child as his own, his time was up.  He refuses to accept the fact that “that pendejo” has his name on the birth certificate. “That pendejo sticks around. He fights for what he loves. And he’s not a coward,” Nancy tells Esteban, who, before he did something drastic, turns and leaves.  But he’ll be back of course.

What a homecoming party for Nancy, huh? Quite possibly the best episode so far of the season. Until the next episode, I’m sure.

As always your comments are more than welcome and appreciated.  I thank you for reading, and…

Until Next Time!

Happy Viewing!!

Weeds 5.7 “Where the Sidewalk Ends”

WEEDS 5.7

“WHERE THE SIDEWALK ENDS”

weed

…And now, the continuation of Weeds.

Nancy’s packing her things as Esteban tries to prevent her from leaving.  She wants to know who the stiletto-heeled Mexicunt was who is preventing their holy matrimony. It turns out that the lady is very well connected, and Esteban needs her in order to win the next election in his political scheme . He assures Nancy that they will indeed get married – after the election.
Meanwhile, back at the medicinal marijuana shop in Ren-Mar, Silas is still attempting to run a respectable business as Doug wanders around the store completely wasted, eating laced ice cream cones.  Deputy Jones enters the store out of uniform, having recovered in his car from his blow to the head last week, and he’s back to extorting Doug and Silas for 10K to keep him from filing assault charges.
Back at Esteban’s home, Nancy-who is very close to her due date finds out the house is being set up with a birthing room so she never has to leave the house for any reason.  So who does Nancy turn to? Andy, of course. And of course Andy shows up driving one of his new toys: one of 17 General Lee cars used in The Dukes of Hazzard in season 4. Or at least that’s what the guy he bought it from told him. He paid enough for it, so it better be. He drives Nancy away from Esteban’s Mansion, and admits he still loves her even though she is poison.  They go to see Dr. Alanis Morissette and induce labor, so she can have the baby on U.S. soil with a U.S. birth certificate. And may I add right here, that with all the hype of Alanis Morrisette appearing in this show, her character has had hardly anything to do. Of course that may have something to do with the fact that she can’t act, but I digress.

Meanwhile, we find Celia attending a motivational seminar given by the You’re Pretty! Cosmetics lady Raylene. Afterwards, Celia tries her hand at selling cosmetics to her co-workers from the mall, fails, and returns to the Botwin house, dejected.  Shane is there to meet her, since he was told by his mother to go there after school as part of their escape plan.  He wants Celia to tell Nancy she will take care of him so he can stay there. She’s not too keen on the idea until he starts giving her a foot massage. Then he tells her she’s selling the wrong product. She should sell what people really want. Drugs, for instance.

At the pot store, customers are all decked in full costume as part of Comic-Con, which is taking place nearby. Dean comes in to see Silas, who has hired him to dissolve his business partnership with Doug. They compromise – Doug will keep away as long as he gets a morning bowl every day. As soon as that’s decided, the DEA bursts into the store, and orders everyone down on the floor. They’ve come to arrest Jones for theft, extortion, and falsifying documents. Turns out the quiet, unassuming guy Silas hired to help them in the shop – whom Doug tried to fire earlier that day so he could hire a hot chick he wanted to bang – is an undercover cop.

Esteban and his goon come busting into the hospital. He bursts into Nancy’s room, where she is lying in bed talking to Andy and Shane. Thinking she is still pregnant, he starts to throw her clothes on the bed for her to get ready to leave. At this point, the door opens and a nurse brings in the newborn baby and puts him into Nancy’s arms. “He has your eyes,” she says.

What Next?

And I’m thinking to myself, “Not another Desperate Housewives moment!”, but as they only went 6 months into the future, I guess that’s better than 5 years, and it’ll help the story line along nicely.

Well, anyway, here we are 6 months later, at Esteban’s mansion, Nancy in the shower, and quite pregnant, and the proud papa Esteban reading a book on baby names.  She gets out of the shower and he hands her a box, saying “I’ve decided that we will get married.”  Quite the romantic, although the ring is big and purple and well, downright ugly. Turns out THAT ring was the championship ring of the soccer team he owns and with that he gives her the real deal. What is she going to say? No? I didn’t think so.

Shane has been picking up some spanish here and there hanging out with Ignacio, and drinking coffee, because Esteban told him it will put hair on his chest.  Shane decides to play hooky from school so he and Ignacio end up at a driving range and decide it will be fun If Ignacio honks the car horn every time someone tries to hit the ball, until one irate golfer decides to give Ignacio the finger, which of course ends up with Ignacio taking the man’s driver and beating him to a pulp, ala Tony Soprano, which makes Shane think twice about what “Fun” is.

Andy, in the meantime, is taking Nancy’s exit a bit harder. Growing a full beard and putting on some weight. He’s also gone through almost all of the $180,000 he got from Judah’s secret bank account and spent it on slot machines, pool tables, and a Ms. Pac-man video game. Oh, yeah, and he bought the General Lee car from the Dukes of Hazzard. He has not returned any of Nancy’s calls and she even goes to see him even when she goes to see him and talks to his voice mail in person.  He refuses to talk to her, even when she tells him she misses him and thats she’s engaged, but instead later shows up at Esteban’s to give the couple his blessings. And to inform Nancy that when things go wrong, and they will, and she becomes widowed once more, he will not be around for her.  But, as sure as I’m sitting here, she’ll end up in trouble, and as always, he’ll be there for her.

Celia, in the meantime, is still living in the garage, and has managed to find work at an athletic shoe store called “Super Sneakers” (referee style uniforn shirt and all) yet insists on wearing her high heels to work even though she has to run for the bus, which of course in pure Celia fashion, she misses. Good thing for her, because a beautiful blonde in a “You’re Pretty” Cosmetics car pulls up to the bus stop and liking Celia’s shoes, offers her a ride. We can only assume where this is going!

Oh, and Nancy finds time to go to the prison to visit Guillermo and rub her engagement and ring in his face. Why? I’m not sure, unless to prove he was wrong about Esteban, or that maybe the actor’s contract doesn’t run out until the end of the season?

Doug and Silas’ medical marijuana dispensary is up and running but with Deputy CP Jones always hanging around and helping himself to the merchandise, seeing as the boys have been coming up short lately with their payments, customers are not buying up the stock. Doug is on this George Hamilton kick as well, after reading his autobiography, even going as far as to having himself spray tanned. With Doug’s new “What would George Hamilton do?” attitude, he gets into an altercation with CP in the store trying to get him to leave and when CP takes a swing at Doug, missing, falling and taking a knock to the noggin, there’s no telling what will happen next.  We next see Doug scraping off his spray-on tan, saying that “George Hamilton can ‘Love at First Bite ‘ MY ASS!”

And just when you think things couldn’t get any worse, some crazy woman, barges into Esteban’s house, confronts him on the patio, and with Nancy over hearing, rattles off some stuff in spanish, leaves, and when Nancy confronts him, he tells her that things have changed and he cannot marry her.  HUH???

SPOILER ALERT!!!

If you want to know what was said to Esteban, here it is, as far as I know.

“You loved me good, until you got your BOY with her. But Marry her? Are you crazy? All the eyes of Mexico will be on you. All my hopes, my effort, my money, my time – I put into YOU?
You should have killed the f-in white b*tch when you had the chance! What I’m saying is you have to choose between me and the white woman.”

Is this woman his wife? Is he still married?  Is she the “Boss” so to speak of whatever mob, if that’s what it is, he is in? My guess is he truly loves Nancy, since he was supposed to have killed her already. But, we’ll see.

NEXT WEEK!!

So, Until Next Time!

Weeds 5.5 “Van Nuys”

WEEDS 5.5 “VAN NYUS”

The 5th episode of the 5th season, “Van Nuys”, begins with Andy and Nancy at the Women’s Health Center, to meet with her obstetrician Dr. Audra Kitson (played by guest star Alanis Morissette) to discuss the option of aborting her baby. Is this obstetrician someone Esteban picked out for her? I can’t imagine why she would want to do this, because she would be signing her own death warrant if Esteban ever found out, and if Dr. Kitson employed by Esteban and Nancy decided to abort the child, she could rat her out to Esteban.

Would she seriously consider an abortion, or as Andy put it, “go to Van Nuys”, or “You’ve gotta abort that gopher, Nance!” And she scolds a pregnant woman for eating junk food in the waiting area, even though the woman is there to have an abortion herself.  She must care something about the baby, right?  She leaves without having made her mind up but instead decides to plant a garden of nice smelling herbs to help curb her hyper-sensitivity to smells. Her garden is killed by grubs, as if almost symbolically by the end of the episode.

Meanwhile, Andy makes good on his promise by impersonating his dead brother Judah and going out on a date with the far from normal “Mags”, and they go for fondue, re-enacting her and Judah’s first date, and before Andy can enjoy dinner, she asks him, as Judah, to take her virginity, which of course causes Andy to do a spit take. Before their date is over they end up in the midst of a bunch of homeless guys and Andy ends up having sex the whack-job mags.  But, he ended up with Judah’s money and continues to try to convince Nancy to run away with him, with the baby or without,  as he tells her “These are very dark waters you’re swimming in, even for you.” But, it seems that Nancy hasn’t made up her mind about moving in with Esteban yet.

Elsewhere, Nancy finds she has a squatter in her garage. Celia! Complaining that she has no place to go, and she was left to die in Mexico, Nancy gives her two days to get out. She even asks Nancy if there’s any chance she can get her old job back at the mall. WEEDS (season 4)Gotta love that Celia. Poor

girl, nothing seems to be going  right with her these days. And,  best yet, when Celia looks in the  freezer in the garage, we finally  find out what happened to Sucio!  Celia runs up to Nancy’s      bedroom yelling “Dead  Mexican!!”  Nancy has to call  Esteban telling him, and he send  two of his thugs out to retrieve  the body.  Celia is there when they arrive and watch as they proceed to put Sucio’s body in a barrel of acid.  When Celia tells Nancy she is going to take a bath, Nancy tells her that if she does, the toaster will go in after her. But, it seems for the time being, Celia has all she needs to hold over Nancy’s head as she took pictures of the thugs disposing of Sucio’s body and that it’s taking place in Nancy’s garage.  Looks like Celia will be staying indefinitely. Although I’m not sure how the pictures will hold any water. She’s done plenty of things Nancy could come back with.

After getting ripped off by his teacher in the last episode, Shane, Isabelle and Ignacio pay a visit to Mr. Sandusky. Shane takes back the weed but also takes several items from the apartment and when Ignacio tells Shane to “shoot him in the leg” he shoots his pet cockatoo, thinking he meant to shoot the bird, not his teacher.  Later, Nancy makes Shane return all the items and bring over a new iguana to replace the bird, telling him birds carry disease and this would be better with the ladies. But, he retaliates against Shane, telling he is going to fail him, and knocking him to the floor. Nancy goes ape over this, picking up a baseball bat and using it to cut off his air supply tells him it’s not nice to steal from a child and makes sure he won’t take advantage of her son again before they leave and grounding Shane, including “no more tweetering.” There are still signs of the badass Nancy Botwin I’ve always loved.

Not a whole lot of Doug and Silas in this episode, although they do visit a “Weed  Agent” by the name of “The Wizard” as recommended by Deputy Jones (guest Larry Joe Campbell) to supply their “medical marijuana” store.  After some haggling over price with Doug counter offering with “suck my balls” they reach an agreement with some coaxing by “The Wizard’s” sword wielding “associate.” Doug did manage to throw a few one-liners in there as he and Silas were setting up shop. “I think I’m slightly retarded in the mouth,” says Doug after he and Silas hurl insults and then hug it out after Doug takes a punch in the mouth after blaming Silas for killing his father, and then recanted it by saying “you didn’t kill your father, Shane did.”

But, to me the biggest surprise came when Andy seems to have convinced a teary-eyed Nancy to run away with him, leave a goodbye note to Esteban saying he’ll understand if he truly loves her, and drive off and escape his evil, it goes the other way, Andy gets the goodbye note instead, and she and Shane end up moving in with Esteban.

Does she really like the guy?

Or is she just afraid he’ll come after her, which, of course, he would.

Will Andy be her knight in shining armor to rescue her from the so-called evil clutches of Esteban?

Has Esteban changed for the sake of his unborn child?

It’s going to be very interesting what happens now that she has moved in with Esteban.  I’m sure we’re in for some very interesting episodes to come!

Stay Tuned!

Until Next Time,

Weeds Season 5: Episode 4

weeds_super_lucky_happy_s5e4cWEEDS SEASON 5: EPISODE 4

“SUPER LUCKY HAPPY”

Another great episode of Weeds! This show, I don’t care what anyone else thinks, just keeps getting better and better!!  I don’t know if it’s the writing, the acting, or both.

Continuing where episode 3 left off,  Esteban meets Nancy, and the rest of the family at the house after he calls them to say it’s OK to come home. Unfortunately, Esteban’s first meeting with Silas and Shane doesn’t go as well as planned:

Silas: “So you’re the mayor of Mexico or something?”
Esteban: “Or something, yes.”
Shane: “And you stuck your penis inside my mother at least once.”
Nancy: “Ok, then. Good night, Shane. Go upstairs.”

But, on the bright side, if you can call it that, Esteban got the pregnancy results back and he is absolutely thrilled that it’s a boy. And HIS boy. Not THEIR boy, right?  And even after he threatened to kill Nancy, Esteban starts getting all lovey-dovey sticky sweet and offering to move Nancy and the boys–even Andy into his home. Nancy seems to be good with it. Then again, what choice does she have??

I thought this episode especially funny when Celia showed up at Nancy’s door begging to stay only to wind up having her booted out with all her stuff behind.  Makes me kinda wonder why Celia wouldn’t just move back to Agrestic and just start her life over.  It’s obvious that no one cares enough about her for her to stay.

One of my favorite scenes was when Andy gets zapped by Esteban’s thug, Ignacio, pissing his pants and ends up in the garage to work out dressed like he came right out of Olivia Newton John’s “Let’s Get Physical” video.  As always,  some great Andy segments in this episode, as Andy finds a bank book hidden in a pair of boxing gloves in the garage belonging to his dead brother and Nancy’s late husband Judah.  Trying to impersonate his dead brother and get access to the money in Judah’s secret account is another thing altogether.  The bank teller Margaret he tries to con into thinking he was Judah turns out to be a former lover of Judah. She agrees to help Andy gain access to the account if he will go out with her. But, he has to pretend he is Judah.  Whack job or not, Andy will do it to get access to Judah’s money.

Shane has some serious issues this season. And why not, when his mother tried to leave him with her sister in the previous episode.  Now, he’s taken to selling pot to his English teacher, telling Andy in one particularly thought provoking scene, “I’m a Botwin. We’re not responsible for anything we do.”  Shane meets with his English teacher who plans to spend $4,000 for Shane’s pot only to have the teacher drive off with the pot and Shane penniless.  Esteban’s goon Ignacio turns out to be the same goon who caused the death of Captain Roy Till’s lover last season and while Roy decides to pay a surprise visit to Nancy, ends up being tazed, pissing his pants and drug into the house.

When Nancy realizes Ignacio is Till’s target she has no other choice but to use the tazer on Ignacio, tying the both of them to her bed.  She knows that no matter which one she would untie, they would kill the other and most likely her as well, so she turns to her Magic 8 Ball, which is no help. But thankfully Esteban arrives to check on her and he handles the situation.  What we see as a result is Ignacio emerging from the bedroom alone, leaving us to the conclusion that Captain Roy Till is no longer a threat to anyone, especially himself. The final scene was bittersweet with Nancy and Esteban walking along the beach and Esteban pitching the Magic 8 Ball into the ocean, then cutting to Andy in the final scene at home putting the finishing touches on a baby swing that Esteban presented Nancy as a gift at the beginning of the episode.

As we saw in the first scenes of this episode there is definitely some sparks between Andy and Nancy, especially when Andy asks her to kiss him when he could tell it bothered her that he had sex with her sister. The look she gave him said it all, but she just had to remind him she was having a baby.  It’ll be interesting to see who she ultimately ends up with: Andy, Esteban, or maybe no one at all??

Until Next Time!!

Happy Viewing!
