Showtime’s staple of the last 6 summer’s has debuted and the last two episodes of Season 7 maybe the best. The shows creator was sighted last year saying that this season could be the last. Contracts are up for the actors and producers, and this is what creator Jenji Kohan had to say: “In my mind, it is [the last season]. Everyone’s contract is up next year, [including] the actors and mine. Seven years is a good run, and I’d rather leave while on top. I’d never say never, but I have a feeling this might be it.”
So we should all enjoy this season, besides 7 is a lucky number right?
We pick up this season with Nancy in prison and the show has done a slight jump in time, 3 years to be exact. Nancy now has a female lover. (We didn’t see that one coming.) Nancy gets an early parole and later finds out that Estaban has been killed. So where is her son Stevie, who is now 4? With the aunt. Nancy is to go to a halfway house in New York. This whole moving the show theme to New York does leave the show open to some wild antics!
The Botwin boys plus Doug are living the high life in Copenhagen, Denmark. Shane is working as a puppeteer with an older woman named Renatta, which … of course that’s what Shane is up to. In the time jump, he would be 18 now, but he’s still sort of Nancy’s little boy, as he doesn’t even hesitate to book a ticket to the U.S. upon learning of her release.
In the second episode of season 7, We get to see Nancy smoke pot for only the second time on the show. Shane, Silas and Doug go to the halfway house only to find Nancy had already bolted out the backdoor. We get to follow Nancy as she starts all over, her interview at the Lamp repair store is priceless.
At the end of the episode she see’s her family for the first time, and then get’s told she needs a random drug test. Oops.
Weeds Season 7 is certainly shaping up nicely. Hopefully the creators will squeeze one more season, but it will depend on negotiations and Showtime’s continued faith in the show.
