Weeds Season 5: Episode 4

weeds_super_lucky_happy_s5e4cWEEDS SEASON 5: EPISODE 4

“SUPER LUCKY HAPPY”

Another great episode of Weeds! This show, I don’t care what anyone else thinks, just keeps getting better and better!!  I don’t know if it’s the writing, the acting, or both.

Continuing where episode 3 left off,  Esteban meets Nancy, and the rest of the family at the house after he calls them to say it’s OK to come home. Unfortunately, Esteban’s first meeting with Silas and Shane doesn’t go as well as planned:

Silas: “So you’re the mayor of Mexico or something?”
Esteban: “Or something, yes.”
Shane: “And you stuck your penis inside my mother at least once.”
Nancy: “Ok, then. Good night, Shane. Go upstairs.”

But, on the bright side, if you can call it that, Esteban got the pregnancy results back and he is absolutely thrilled that it’s a boy. And HIS boy. Not THEIR boy, right?  And even after he threatened to kill Nancy, Esteban starts getting all lovey-dovey sticky sweet and offering to move Nancy and the boys–even Andy into his home. Nancy seems to be good with it. Then again, what choice does she have??

I thought this episode especially funny when Celia showed up at Nancy’s door begging to stay only to wind up having her booted out with all her stuff behind.  Makes me kinda wonder why Celia wouldn’t just move back to Agrestic and just start her life over.  It’s obvious that no one cares enough about her for her to stay.

One of my favorite scenes was when Andy gets zapped by Esteban’s thug, Ignacio, pissing his pants and ends up in the garage to work out dressed like he came right out of Olivia Newton John’s “Let’s Get Physical” video.  As always,  some great Andy segments in this episode, as Andy finds a bank book hidden in a pair of boxing gloves in the garage belonging to his dead brother and Nancy’s late husband Judah.  Trying to impersonate his dead brother and get access to the money in Judah’s secret account is another thing altogether.  The bank teller Margaret he tries to con into thinking he was Judah turns out to be a former lover of Judah. She agrees to help Andy gain access to the account if he will go out with her. But, he has to pretend he is Judah.  Whack job or not, Andy will do it to get access to Judah’s money.

Shane has some serious issues this season. And why not, when his mother tried to leave him with her sister in the previous episode.  Now, he’s taken to selling pot to his English teacher, telling Andy in one particularly thought provoking scene, “I’m a Botwin. We’re not responsible for anything we do.”  Shane meets with his English teacher who plans to spend $4,000 for Shane’s pot only to have the teacher drive off with the pot and Shane penniless.  Esteban’s goon Ignacio turns out to be the same goon who caused the death of Captain Roy Till’s lover last season and while Roy decides to pay a surprise visit to Nancy, ends up being tazed, pissing his pants and drug into the house.

When Nancy realizes Ignacio is Till’s target she has no other choice but to use the tazer on Ignacio, tying the both of them to her bed.  She knows that no matter which one she would untie, they would kill the other and most likely her as well, so she turns to her Magic 8 Ball, which is no help. But thankfully Esteban arrives to check on her and he handles the situation.  What we see as a result is Ignacio emerging from the bedroom alone, leaving us to the conclusion that Captain Roy Till is no longer a threat to anyone, especially himself. The final scene was bittersweet with Nancy and Esteban walking along the beach and Esteban pitching the Magic 8 Ball into the ocean, then cutting to Andy in the final scene at home putting the finishing touches on a baby swing that Esteban presented Nancy as a gift at the beginning of the episode.

As we saw in the first scenes of this episode there is definitely some sparks between Andy and Nancy, especially when Andy asks her to kiss him when he could tell it bothered her that he had sex with her sister. The look she gave him said it all, but she just had to remind him she was having a baby.  It’ll be interesting to see who she ultimately ends up with: Andy, Esteban, or maybe no one at all??

Until Next Time!!

Weeds S5; Ep.3 “Su-Su-Sucio”

In Episode 3 “Su-Su-Sucio” Nancy gets a new body guard when Cesar can’t take anymore of her and brings in Sucio, who hasn’t showered in probably a month but is, as Cesar puts it, “comfortable with his man smell.” Andy returns to Ren Mar and Nancy knowing that Shane is safely tucked away with sister Jill. Nancy starts to bleed in the bathroom and they rush to the hospital where Esteban’s doctor advises Nancy to avoid all stress of any kind. Easier said than done.

In Mexico, meanwhile, Celia is still playing house with her Rebel host helping to organize his operation and even going so far as to try critiquing his ransom notes and trying to rewrite them and making a general nusiance of herself that she is drugged–AGAIN, and wakes up on a bus that drops her butt off in Texas!

Meanwhile, Doug and Silas return and Silas has a proposition for Nancy: he wants to start a legitimate retail business selling medicinal marijuana which is perfectly legal in Ren Mar.  Nancy reluctantly agrees to fund his venture as long as he promises to keep Doug away from the inventory.  And if this wasn’t stressful enough, sister Jill pays a surprise visit with Shane in tow. Turns out Shane threatened to show the pictures of her and Andy having sex to her husband and she had no choice but to bring the little pervert back home, refusing to let him move back in with her. Nancy pleads with her sister to reconsider since it is too dangerous for Shane to be there. Jill’s visit is as much a surprise to Andy and the two end up in Andy’s room to continue where they left off.

With Nancy’s blessing, Silas and Doug apply for a business license for their medical marijuana store, but hit a snag when they are informed that their application cannot be accepted without signed consent from a law enforcement official.  Of course they end up meeting a crooked cop who demands monthly payments in exchange for his signature!

Nancy, meanwhile has become fed up with Sucio’s filth and drags his butt to the yard where there is a shower and forces him to clean up his act, so to speak. But when she goes to retrieve the hopefully clean bodyguard, she finds he has disappeared with only his discarded clothes and a puddle of blood in his place. Totally freaked, Nancy grabs everyone and flees the house.  Nancy tries to convince Jill that they are in mortal danger and begs her to catch the next flight home. That is until Nancy receives a call from Esteban on her cell making sure she is following doctors orders and taking it easy.  She tells him what happened to Sucio and fears that it is a sign from Guillermo and that he knows she ratted him and his tunnel out to the DEA and it’s payback time. Esteban tells her if it was Guillermo, he would have killed her and not Sucio and to go someplace safe and wait for his next call.

And all of this is happening under the watchful eye of Agent Roy Till from a nearby car.

Did Agent Till have something to do with the disappearance of Sucio?  Did Sucio at least get a shower?  What has become of Celia?  Will Doug and Silas’ medicinal marijuana store be a success or will Doug smoke all the profits away?

Keep it right here for my blog of Episode 4: “Super Lucky Happy”

Weeds S5;Ep.2 “Machetes Up Top”

TCDWEED EC094In “Machetes Up Top”, Nancy receives a message from Guillermo and must visit him in prison without Esteban finding out.  That means ditching the goon that Esteban has keeping Nancy “company”.  During her visit Guillermo blames her for the DEA finding ans shutting down his magical tunnel, which she denies.  When he finds out that she is “with child”, namely Esteban’s, he tells her she is doomed to find herself dead in some landfill with her lady parts cut out, since she is not Esteban’s wife and only the knocked up whore whose life and the life of her unborn child are of no meaning.

Elsewhere, at Nancy’s estranged sister Jill’s house, Andy tells Jill that Nancy would like her to take Shane in to live with her and her husband and twin daughters and that it is for his own safety.  Reluctant to do anything for a sister who only talks to her when she needs something, Jill agrees.  After Jill and Andy knock off about a case of wine, and Jill pours out her feelings about how both she and Andy are so unappreciated, they end up getting it on. And Shane captures all the action on his cell phone camera!

In the National Forest, Doug and Silas run into some trouble finding a place to grow their weed and narrowly escape with their heads intact, minus their weed which was taken by some goons who had the same idea of growing pot in the forest.

Somewhere in Mexico, now that Quinn was kicked to the curb by her rebel leader boyfriend, Celia is given her freedom.  But, with nowhere to go and all her friends and ex-husband caring less about her well-being, she decides to stay, and organizes her captors weaponry with “Machetes Up Top” of the shelves.

Elsewhere, fearful for her life, Nancy pays Dean a visit to have him draw up a last will incase something should happen to her, naming Silas as Shane’s legal guardian. Nancy ends up in a Japanese restaurant, drinks herself silly and pays Esteban a surprise visit.  She confronts him with her new found information and asks when she will wind up in a landfill.  Esteban tells her he hasn’t decided that yet, and in turn she pulls a gun, points the barrel at her tummy, puts the trigger in his hand and tells him to decide NOW!  Bad move Nancy!  Esteban throws her on a table,  pulls down her skirt and reminds her who is in charge!!

Stay tuned for Episode 3!!

High on Season 5 of Weeds

TCDWEED EC094Alrighty, here we are with the season 5 premier of one of our favorite shows here at DragQueenDiaries:  Weeds.

I have to say I wasn’t too sure where they could go with this season, but was pleasingly surprised with it.  How hilarious was it that when we last saw Celia, her daughter Quinn had drugged her and was holding her for ransom unless someone came up with the money to get her back or be killed and have all of her internal organs sold on the black market?  And no one would pay up!! Calling everyone in her cell phone and no one had the money nor did they care what happened to her.  Luckily for Celia, she had the battle with cancer and because of all the chemotherapy, her organs would be useless anyway.

Nancy returned home after revealing to Esteban the sonogram of the baby, unsure of her fate, while Andy, Doug and Silas decide to grow pot in a national forest and Nancy decides that it would be best for  Shane to live with her sister.

Can’t wait for next week’s episode!!

Until next time

Let’s Get ‘High’ with Season 5 of “Weeds”!

Well, now that a new season of one of my all-time favorite shows is quickly approaching (that would be season 5 of  “Weeds”,  if  you couldn’t tell by the title of this blog) on Monday,  June 8,  2009,  I can’t  wait to see what’s in store for our ‘ganja’ queen Nancy Botwin and her royal subjects!!

When we last left our friendly followers of the fine stuff,  DEA agent Roy Till is out to kill the people (and their loved ones) responsible for his partner’s (both on AND off the job) gruesome murder, which would include Nancy, if she knows more than she’s telling.  And Esteban discovers Nancy is responsible for the DEA finding the drug tunnel (whoopsie!!).

Along the way, Celia develops a drug habit (I’m shocked!) which becomes serious enough for Isabelle and Dean to stage an intervention.  After attending rehab she apologizes to Dean and Isabelle, but they reject her apology insisting instead that she track down Quinn (remember her??) who is still in Mexico after Celia sent her packing and off to boarding school at the end of the pilot episode.  Yes, THAT Quinn!  But,  her plan goes kablooey when she is drugged and kidnapped out of revenge by Quinn and held for randsom.  Can  ANYTHING go right for this poor woman?  Probably what she deserves for playing Wilma Flintstone!

TCDWEED EC094

(L-R: Kevin Nealon, Hunter Parrish, Mary-Louise Parker, Justin Kirk and Elizabeth Perkins)

Meanwhile, Doug has Mermex deported after rejecting his romantic advances (having sex with Andy did’nt help her case either), and realizing he has nothing left for anyone to take from him, writes a letter to his seperated wife daring her to come after him.  And speaking of poor Andy,  I gotta wonder what season 5 will hold in store for him,  wrestling with his feelings for his sister-in-law Nancy (does he “love” her more than “in a motherly way?) and questions his reasoning for sticking it out with the family for so long.

And, as for our ganja queen Nancy?   She left us hanging with her informing Esteban she was carrying his child (she said “it feels like a boy”) by showing him an ultrasound picture of her with child after he showed HER a picture of her and DEA agent Till, realizing she was the one who blew the cover on his drug tunnel.  Was the Ultrasound picture really of  HER womb,  or  was it just her way of not getting offed by Esteban?

Well we’ll just have to wait a little longer to find out,  now won’t we???

Happy toking and viewing!!!!
