High on Season 5 of Weeds

TCDWEED EC094Alrighty, here we are with the season 5 premier of one of our favorite shows here at DragQueenDiaries:  Weeds.

I have to say I wasn’t too sure where they could go with this season, but was pleasingly surprised with it.  How hilarious was it that when we last saw Celia, her daughter Quinn had drugged her and was holding her for ransom unless someone came up with the money to get her back or be killed and have all of her internal organs sold on the black market?  And no one would pay up!! Calling everyone in her cell phone and no one had the money nor did they care what happened to her.  Luckily for Celia, she had the battle with cancer and because of all the chemotherapy, her organs would be useless anyway.

Nancy returned home after revealing to Esteban the sonogram of the baby, unsure of her fate, while Andy, Doug and Silas decide to grow pot in a national forest and Nancy decides that it would be best for  Shane to live with her sister.

Can’t wait for next week’s episode!!

Until next time

Happy Viewing!

Watch Nurse Jackie, STAT!

“I don’t do chatty.  Quiet.  Quiet and mean. Those are my people,” Nurse Jackie tells first year nursing student Zoey Barkow (Merritt Wever) as they make rounds.  If you have’nt seen the fantastic new show,  “Nurse Jackie”  on Showtime following “Weeds“  on Monday nights, you are missing one of the best new shows of the season anywhere on television.   Created by Liz Brixius and Linda Wallem,  “Nurse Jackie” stars the always entertaining Edie (“Sopranos”) Falco stars as veteran New York ER Nurse Jackie Peyton,  who,  if  she isn’t busting the balls of a smug Ivy League Dr. Fitch “Coop” Cooper (Peter Facinelli)  for not following her advice causing a patient’s death (then forging the victim’s  organ donor card so some good can come out of his senseless death), stealing money from a man who nearly killed a prostitute and giving it to the man’s pregnant girlfriend,  she must make sense out of the chaos around her and level the playing field,  and not afraid of bending the rules NURSE JACKIEwhether her methods of justice are right or wrong.

Helping Jackie cope with day to day life in the ER are fellow nurse Mohammed “mo-mo” de la Cruz (Haaz Sleiman) her confidant with street-smarts and biting sense of humor, and her most unsual and unlikely best friend Dr. Eleanor O’Hara, who’s dislike for stupidity is matched only by her genuine affection and respect for Jackie.  They share the same sense of humor and are both intensely good yet intensely unsentimental at the same time.   Nurse Jackie accomplishes all of this day in and day out while on a regular diet of pain killers for her bad back supplied to her by her part-time lover pharmacist Eddie (Paul Schulze), before returning home after a hard days work to her two adorable daughters and loving husband.

Nurse Jackie will make you laugh and cry, but mostly it will make you think about the crumbling state of our country’s healthcare system.  I am not a Doctor, nor do I play one on TV, but I would definately prescribe a weekly dose of  Nurse Jackie.

Happy Viewing!!

Let’s Get ‘High’ with Season 5 of “Weeds”!

Well, now that a new season of one of my all-time favorite shows is quickly approaching (that would be season 5 of  “Weeds”,  if  you couldn’t tell by the title of this blog) on Monday,  June 8,  2009,  I can’t  wait to see what’s in store for our ‘ganja’ queen Nancy Botwin and her royal subjects!!

When we last left our friendly followers of the fine stuff,  DEA agent Roy Till is out to kill the people (and their loved ones) responsible for his partner’s (both on AND off the job) gruesome murder, which would include Nancy, if she knows more than she’s telling.  And Esteban discovers Nancy is responsible for the DEA finding the drug tunnel (whoopsie!!).

Along the way, Celia develops a drug habit (I’m shocked!) which becomes serious enough for Isabelle and Dean to stage an intervention.  After attending rehab she apologizes to Dean and Isabelle, but they reject her apology insisting instead that she track down Quinn (remember her??) who is still in Mexico after Celia sent her packing and off to boarding school at the end of the pilot episode.  Yes, THAT Quinn!  But,  her plan goes kablooey when she is drugged and kidnapped out of revenge by Quinn and held for randsom.  Can  ANYTHING go right for this poor woman?  Probably what she deserves for playing Wilma Flintstone!

(L-R: Kevin Nealon, Hunter Parrish, Mary-Louise Parker, Justin Kirk and Elizabeth Perkins)

Meanwhile, Doug has Mermex deported after rejecting his romantic advances (having sex with Andy did’nt help her case either), and realizing he has nothing left for anyone to take from him, writes a letter to his seperated wife daring her to come after him.  And speaking of poor Andy,  I gotta wonder what season 5 will hold in store for him,  wrestling with his feelings for his sister-in-law Nancy (does he “love” her more than “in a motherly way?) and questions his reasoning for sticking it out with the family for so long.

And, as for our ganja queen Nancy?   She left us hanging with her informing Esteban she was carrying his child (she said “it feels like a boy”) by showing him an ultrasound picture of her with child after he showed HER a picture of her and DEA agent Till, realizing she was the one who blew the cover on his drug tunnel.  Was the Ultrasound picture really of  HER womb,  or  was it just her way of not getting offed by Esteban?

Well we’ll just have to wait a little longer to find out,  now won’t we???

Happy toking and viewing!!!!
