Drag Queen Diaries.com Must Have Movie!
On November 8, 1959 in Hibbing, Minnesota, the one and only "Chi Chi LaRue" (aka Larry David Paciotti) was born. An American film director of gay, bisexual and straight pornography, LaRue has also directed under the names Lawrence David and taylor Hudson. LaRue moved to the Twin Cities area and began performing in drag as one-half of "The Weather Gals", a "hag drag" revue, and since the LaRue persona is achieved through drag, he is alternatively referred to as "he" and "she". As the LaRue persona is achieved through drag, he is alternatively referred to as "he" and "she". Moving to California with a friend, LaRue was hired by Catalina Video as an administrative assistance due highly to the fact of his vast knowledge of porn and the workings of the porn industry.
Due to the fact that LaRue was working at Catalina during the initial revelation of the AIDS crisis in which many of the producers and directors in the gay porn industry were falling ill or dying, gave LaRue an opportunity to persuade Catalina management to allow him to direct full-length videos.
Since 1988, LaRue has directed hundreds of gay porn films, appeared in Madonna's 1992 music video "Deeper and Deeper", and in 2003 began to direct straight porn for Vivid Video, where he became a favorite among female stars, particularly Jenna Jameson. LaRue is also an accomplished DJ, performing many events throughout the year. In 2004, LaRue was photographed by Timothy Greenfield-Sanders for his monograph, XXX: Thirty Porn-Star Portraits. A self-proclaimed fan of LaRue's work, John Waters conducted an interview for the accompanied layout. The "directrix" also appeared in a companion documentary titled Thinking XXX which ran on HBO. Other documentary appearances included Porno Valley (another HBO series) and Cycles of Porn: Sex/Life L.A., Part 2. For some time, LaRue divided his attention between Vivid Video and his own Rascal Video for Channel 1 Releasing, until, in 2006, LaRue made it clear he would no longer continue producing films for Vivid Video, due to the fact that they featured actors and actresses having sex without the use of condoms. In 2007, LaRue was chosen as one of Out Magazine's "top 50 most powerful gay men and women in America." In August of 2008, LaRue directed the controversial bisexual film titled Shifting Gears. It was during this time that LaRue coined the term "Straight-for-pay" (a play on words for "Gay-for-pay"), in reference to performer Blake Riley's first encounter with a woman, Shy Love, and liking it. LaRue was also one of the talking heads in the Jack Wrangler 2008 documentary, Wrangler: Anatomy of an Icon.
LaRue and partner Channel 1 Releasing will open its first company store, Chi Chi LaRue's, in West Hollywood . The grand opening party will take place at the store, with LaRue's notorious birthday celebration to follow in November. The upscale-styled boutique will offer the entire Channel 1 catalog of more than 2,000 titles and products. The store's offerings will include DVDs, novelties, lubricants, condoms, apparel, cards, photo books and calendars. An exclusive arrangement has also been made with One Condoms to provide all the protective barrier products for the store.
