What’s In A Drag Queen Name?

Have you ever wondered how drag queen superstars like Divine, RuPaul, Pandora Boxx or Miss Coco Peru got their drag queen name? This article will give you tips on how to pick that perfect drag queen name.

Picking a kickass drag queen name:

So how do you pick a good name? First of all figure out what kind of name you will need. If you are doing drag as a one time thing, then you won't have to think of a complicated name. If your going to be an all out drag queen superstar and setting the stage a fire, you're going to need a name that will be fierce and stay on everyone’s lips.

Write a list of all the famous drag queen names that you like, but be careful in not creating something that is similar to someone else. The worst thing you could do is have the same name as another queen. Let your imagination run wild. Try to pick a name that suits your personality.

When we were thinking about comedy names we came up with Anita Man although old school it's still memorable to this day. Another favorite for example was a drag queen from Chicago with the name Memory Lane she did camp drag, and it was great for her character. Are you going to be an x-rated queen? Then you’ll need an x-rated name.

Think about what persona you are trying to establish when you hit the stage. A big gal might go for a big name. Delta Work (this seasons contestant on Rupaul's Drag Race) was thinking about Delta Burke and changed the last name.

Once you have a unique and fierce name, go and try it out. Ask your friends how they like the name. If you have a drag mother, she can some help as well.

Picking a good drag queen name shouldn't be hard, with a little imagination you could be the next superstar!
